Using a local strength superiority to crumble a more evenly spaced force one part at a time. Even when individual units would lose in 1 on 1 fights acting in a group facing separate opponents can multiply effective force. Downside is that the fight will be harder to set up. It means also that part of the enemy force is left in total freedom to do what ever they want unopposed. A high concentration means somewhere else is a more weak group. Thus a player having good luck with an attack "fist" but losing more badly because of thinned out defences may not gain net benefit from the reorganization of troops.
